Question Please help my BUM!!

Help!! We recently purchased a 1985 FXSB Lowrider. It currently has a solo La Pera seat and we are in desperate need of one that will be suitable for a passenger. My question being, are seats for later model Lowriders compatible with this bike? If not, how can I expand my search? If anything I am even pickier than my boyfriend about what goes on this bike, I won't ruin the alure of this beautiful bike with some tacky seat that looks like it belongs in a 70's sitcom. BUT...I would love to be able to enjoy a cruise on the back without the lower half of my body going numb!
Your response would be GREATLY appreciated...my bum thanks you!!

It is hard to find a seat for an 85 or 86 lowrider, superglide or wideglide. These are four speed, evo, swing arm frames and have odd seat brackets. Mustang and Corbin used to make seats for them but have stopped. Best thing I can suggest is buy a shovelhead seat you like and modify the mounts or get someone to build you a custom seat pan. I hope this help.

I would go further and observe that the factory FX seats looked OK but were not up to much! Even if you had one of them you would probably be asking a similar question. So I agree with Kber45, but lean towards suggesting you find a custom seat builder.

The subject of rebuilding seats has been raised a few times on HDF. Do a general search on seats and see if there is any useful advice that will help. When I first bought a Harley back in the 70s there were a lot of seat builders in the USA specialising in building tailor-made touring style comfortable seats. Although there are far more Harleys around these days they seem to be pretty thin on the ground. Odd!

I have a HD seat that will work for you. I used it on my 1985 FXWG, but it will fit the Lowrider also. It has the pillow/button look like the mustang duke, but it is HD. Only problem is that it got a tear in the front section and I covered it with a round HD patch. Doesn't look terrible and its comfortable. Having matching sissy bar pad also. Would sell for a good deal.

Have you personally looked at Mustangs website? If not, take a look and see if they have something that might fit. As a gal, I would assume that you are looking for something comfortable. Also pretty sure you would want to keep the seat not too high in front. Just ordered a two piece for my 93 FXLR in the FX section, but didn't look at all the fitments. They do have a toll free number if this helps you.

I would buy a factory seat like the one above and send it to Mean City cycles. They've done hundreds if not thousands of seats including ours. They make the seat fit your needs and they are comfortable too. Last weekend I had a rider on the back of my bike who has ridden on numerous bike and she said that she has never ridden on a seat that was that comfortable in her life. She stated that it was more comfortable that her recliner. Check out their site, you won't be disappointed!!

I also have the original seat from my 1985 fxwg, that would fit the 85 lowrider, except it has been recovered in leather and rattlesnake. may not be to you liking, but could be used for the seat pan as mentiomed above.
