Default Tranny Question

Have a Ultima 6 speed/Ultima 127 in '90 FL. Last year tighten down nut on left side of tranny, for adjustment, came loose, shifter was allllll out of wack, did 3rd gear adjustment and got it pretty close, slips out of 1st once in a while, may have jambed it a few times, out of frustration, when it got out of wack. Shifts threw the gears well, down shifts well, sometimes I give the throttle a blip to get it to go into a gear. Problem is that if I have to stop quickly, I am stuck in the gear I was in, Have to shut off bike to get it into a gear to take off again, can be a pain in the behind, maybe bent a fork ? Thanks in advance.

Haven't had much experience inside the tranny case, but my recent shifting problems were due to improper clutch set up. I reset the nut/screw and took most of the slack out of the cable. It works much better.

Something to consider before getting into things.

Thanks IronButt, cable and clutch are Ok, just had that checked when I had lifter issues taken care of, feel it is something inside the tranny, but could be wrong.

Pull the top cover off, put it in third gear and adjust it so that you have equal amount of space on both sides of the shifter pawl, Tighten down the nut, check to ensure the adjustment did not change. It should shift fine, if not you may mave screwed something up when you jammed it into gear. These transmissions shift like butter when they are set up properly. Also check the primary chain and fluid levels. P.S. Don't get frustrated, it just ends up costing you more money. Hope this helps.
