EVO problems
Anyway, my question is, is it normal for the front cylinder to be pumping about twice as fast as the rear? I think this is happening because when I put my hand on the exhaust I can feel a twice as fast puff of air from the front cylinder compared to the rear. Is that normal? Would it be related to the above?
But a quart of oil every 500 miles was the maximum usage allowed for 8V71 Detroit Diesels which have 568 cubic inches. When they got to that point, we pulled them for rebuild - period. Your engine is only 2 cylinders basically that size, rather than 8. So can you take a hint?

Corrected info:
Just in case someone trips across this and calls me down - that should have read a quart every 250 miles, rather than 500 (1 gal per 1000 miles)

You can spend as much money as you can imagine... It depends on what you're looking for on the other end and whether you want to do it, or have it done,
but basically parts for a good dependable top-end rebuild would run you about 200.00 plus boring cylinders (may not need that, but probably does) and servicing the heads. About 500.00 tops, for a stock engine when you're done.
Or, you can buy new OEM cylinder kits for 350.00 and new OEM heads for 500.00 (plus valves and springs - another 150.00) add a 75.00 gasket set and have a totally brand new top end.
Lots of options
Lots of opinions (I'm sure will follow)....
That is certainly excessive consumption but you need to know where it's coming from. Rings?Valves?Seals? All of the above? Just one cylinder or both?
You also need to determine WHEN it's blowing oil. By that I mean is it only on decell, all the time, or when you get on it? Can you see it in daylight or only at night?
You didn't say how many miles you have on it, but I would have a compression test and a leak down test performed to find out what the problem is, then select a course of action.
Once upon a time my FLSTN suffered excessive oil consuption and it turned out to be valve seals only-- the cylinder walls, pistons, and rings were fine.
Since you are fouling a plug it sounds like more than seals though.
Just some food for thought.

I thought my problem was valve seals as it only smoked when I decelled off a highway up to a light (for example). On decell and while waiting for the light I could see my smoke in the headlights of the car behind me.
