Default 89 carburator upgrade.

I purchased a used carburator on ebay. It is a 40 mm Klein CV. I need to get a flange adapter, any ideas? I was comparing it to the stock one and it looks like the cables will be too short where they connect to the carburator. Can they be adjusted enough to make them fit? I know this a common upgrade so any advice will be appreciated.

You'll have to get a later model intake manifold (with head flanges) The cables have to be modified and I've done it but honestly, it's not worth the time. You have to cut the housing off the pull-side cable to make them work and most often they are so stiff because they will be routed differently. Buy cables for your bike except 90 or later.

If your running a stock air cleaner housing, it won't work either. Different carb bolt pattern and no room for the diaphram chamber behind it. And, you'll need to make a simple bracket for the enricher cable because it comes off the left side of the CV.

Yeah there's a little bit too the change over, but the savings in fuel will pay for itself very quickly... and it will perform better too.

Should I get the cables and manifold from the dealer? What about just a flange adaptor? What type of air cleaner would you recommend?
Thanks for the help.

Cables you can get anywhere. Dealer is OK if you don't have a decent aftermarket parts source. I'd look for a used mainfold and the flanges are part of that, but not made to it. And I just did an ebay search and didn't see one at all, but they come and go if your patient. I'll put some photos of what you need to find... Should be the same for 90 thru 98.

Air cleaner opinions can be varied and abundant, just remember that some use a bracket to hold the carb on to the heads and the filter housing bolts to that. Factory stuff utilizes the backing housing to bolt to the carb and the head. Basically, keep in mind - the air cleaner arrangement is the ONLY thing that holds the carb on.

I'm a little pushed for time but will be back this evening. Hope this helps....

Should be able to find this stuff about anywhere but here's the OEM part #s :
Manifold 27019-89A
Flange (front) 27009-86A
Flange (rear) 27009-86A
O-ring (f/flange, 2 required) 27009-86A
Carb to manifold seal 26995-86B

PS remember the choke (enricher) cable and valve are usually missing off the used carbs so if yours didn't come with it, you'll need all that too - totally different from the stock carb.

There you go dkfxr...

I didn't know they made such an animal, but then, I never claimed to know much.

How you been George? Still giving away parts I see.... so cheap I'm inclined to think you stole them
