Well went on a 200 mile trip today and the old girl has passed the 50,000 mile marker. Ran like a dream and no problems at all. Had a fairly constant leak from rear base gasket, but found a thread on this forum suggesting Permatex windscreen sealer. Got it a couple of weeks ago, cleand crank case and put the sealer on. What a great tip. Absoutley no weeping or wetness in over 400 miles.
Great site, may not have much input, but, jeepers, you can learn a lot.

Tony.

1986 FLST Hertigae Softail.
No real mods that I am aware of except fpr straight pipes, S&S Super E and Screemin Eagle Ign.

Congratulations....

Last spring we rolled the odometer over on our '90 Ultra and this year, as with you we passed the 50 thousand miles that we personally added to the 115,000 total. We don't do long trips and don't use it as a commuter for work, just weekend rides. Our riding is kinda like the old Chuck Berry song -- just riding along, my wife behind me with "No Particular Place to Go" The biggest difference with the song is I never have a grudge against a seatbelt that doesn't budge....

At 50,000 miles I'm pretty sure you can safely say that the rings are seated and the break in process has been completed.

Just went for a ride from Youngstown, Ohio to Lake Chautauqua, Ny this weekend and hit the 50k mark also. Bought it 5 years ago with 25k on it.

I just hit 20,000 on my 99 Softail Custom, so at 50,000 at least, I guess the INA cam bearings are OK. I have been racking up about a 1,000 miles a month for the last three months as I just got this baby three months ago with 17,000 on it. I am like some others here, most of my riding is within 25 miles of home.
