Default How high do you rev your evo?

I have the 96 wideglide shown below with just a ev27 cam, pipes, air cleaner.
I was wondering how hard you guys run your evos? Sometimes when I really get on it I rev her up to 5000 RPM's! Is this too hard on her for longevity? I usually shift at about 3500 RPMS.
My buddy was tellin' me that people that run evos at 85-90 for extended periods of time tend to go through bottom ends. thoughts? I just want to have her for a very long time!

My present Sporty doesn't have a Tach but can pretty much go by the sound and speed that used on my 04 Sporty around 3,000-3,5000

I have a 95 FLHT with an Ultima 89 in stroker kit, Crane cam, Edelbrock Intake with ported hd heads to match the square port intake runners and an S&S super G carb. My crane hi-4e has the limiter set at 6300 and I bump it all the time. I normally cruise at between 2800 and 4000 rpm. If I keep it above 2800 it will pull well and even accelerate uphill in sixth, If I fall below 2800 I have to downshift to fifth. 2800 rpm in sixth is 70mph.

On the street we recomend 3-4,000 as a good shift point, with 2,000 as a low point (this depends on final gearing, but works as a rule). The max RPM limit we reccomend is 6,200 RPM's, although they will turn higher and live you aren't making any power up there with a street engine.

my 80 inch with a ev27 and 9.5 to 1 pistons is done by 5200-5500 rpm, anything else is just noise.

An occasional blast to redline is actually good for it.Doing it all the time will certainly shorten it's service life.Bottom line is good maintainance.

I cruise on the interstates at speeds between 70-80 mph, I'm generally around the 3500 rpm area (don't recall offhand). Anything over that speed, and my FLHS (due to the large windshield) needs too much attention on my part to be relaxing.

I've got a Dyna ignition, and IIRC, the limit is around 6200 rpm. It's also got an EV27 cam, Supertrapp slipons, SE air cleaner, and street porting on the stock heads. I've only ran it up to the limiter once. Mostly, if I'm 'gunning it', I shift just above 5000 rpm. Around town, I'm one of the 2500-3000 shifters.

The ignition that is shipped with the Ultima engines is non-adjustable. This helps extend the life for the warranty. The ignition in our 120 is a Dyna 2000I, we wanted to use a Crane but since they were bought by S & S they are getting scarce. We had to change the ignition because the rear cylinder was not getting any advance because of a problem in the module. Prior to it going bad it worked well, we just noticed a lack of power and started checking things out until we found it.
