Default Analog clock Help!

Hey all, have an '86 FLHTC & got a dead clock for a year now. Doing a steering bearing adjustment and fork oil change. Got the outer fairing off and radio out.

Easy now to take this sucker (clock) out. Testest voltage 12.5 on postive & ground is 1.5 ohms on the leads to the clock, so ok. Cleaned terminals on the clock (a bit green) but no go. Took it out & I went ahead to remove the 3 back screws on the clock.

Question: Is there a way to open up the faceplate to check for open wirings with-out damage?

I can shake the dial & inards a few mm but can't find a way to open this baby up. I like to just solder a weak link, than try to find this old time analog clock. If any could be had (that works) with the age of my ride.

Thx in advance!

Check this out http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarti...ck_repair2.htm
If you search there are VDO clocks out there but I am not sure of the diameter size. I have a 87 FLHTC.

I've never dismantled one, but they are frequently offered on ebay at reasonable prices, NOS (new old stock)

Thx BB4xl on the article for a Porsche. You guys are great! That what I'm talkin' about & trying to do! If I only could open it up with-out sawing it open.

2" innard diam. Faceplate/ring 2 1/4". I can't unscrew it, seems glued together.

Just a note; all my other guages fog up but not this clock.

So t150vej maybe right and I try ebay. But there's still 3 months of good(colder) riding here. I wanted a quick fix if possible.

I can totally appreciate that I cruised thru fleabay just after my last post - nothing there, but they do come and go. Good luck on your project

Funny, but my clock stopped about a year ago also. They must have hit the programmed End of Life. If you find a direct replacement, let me know.

LOL, yea maybe the case! I'll probley put it back in, as is. It's gonna be right twice a day, unlike a digital!!

Save it for my winter project.

Now you have me worried Hess. Mine's been keeping perfect time since 1987, and yours is an '86... Sounds like my clocks days are numbered.

My 87 FLHTC's clock is still working, you got me worried too If you seach google for VDO clocks there are a few ,but none look exact. My gauges all fog up too untill they get warm. I think only 86 and 87 used that style clock. They put the clock in the radio in 88.
