I might add that you should probably get some adjustable pushrods. That way you don't have to pull the rocker boxes off when you're down in the bottom. Just cut the old ones out with a bolt cutter. If you have adjustable pushrods in there already, most likely someone has been in there before.

You're like the EVO Dr.! I guess if something does go wrong I'll have some great help diagnosing it and fixing it!

Thank you!

Watch the oil levels for the motor and primary. If one gets high while another gets low (or vice versa) this means the sprocket shaft seal is pushed out, due to crankcase ventilation problems or blow-by. Fix those and then ask some shop to install the seal for you - they may know some tricks so it wouldn't do it again.
Rare problem on evos, but I had it

I doctor lots of things. 'Round here, we say: If I can't fix it, I can fix it so no one can.

I bought my bike new. Opened the box myself. I have over 75K miles now, took it 2K miles to Sturgis and back this year pulling a trailer, passing many a twinky.

The guys here in the Evo section know lots about them and don't mind sharing that knowledge. This is where I heard there was a problem with that inner cam bearing, and that my bike was pre-problem.

The big difference between the Evo forum and the Touring forum:

On the Evo forum:
I just bought a Evo with 100K miles on it. My front wheel comes off the ground in 2nd gear when I nail it. My friend's does that in 3rd. Should I change the oil?

On the Touring board:
I just bought a 2010 Ultra Classic FLHTUCEIEIO. Is it normal to get a 2nd degree burn on your thighs from the engine heat? How can I mount my 500 watt base cannon and still have enough amps left over for my 1KW electric underwear? I only have 20 miles on it, but I want new mufflers that sound just right, ear splitting but not drowing out the stereo. Will the Kury's do that?

Welcome. Lots of valuable info here. But please be quiet, we don't want the FLHTUCEIEIO owners to find out we are having more fun.

Guess you already know to buy a shop and parts manuals. Well worth it.

60k on the clock, just getting warmed up (as long as it was taken care of).

Don't forget to go to "Show me your EVO" section for some pictures.

So not to sound stupid but, is there a way to differentiate between the stock and replacement cam bearing?
Dont mean to hijack, but after I saw this thread and the other links in it its got me scared **** as to what my bike has in it? Previous owner just said he upgraded the cams, didnt mention anything about the bearing.

That's some pretty funny stuff about the touring section, gave me a good laugh this morning.

jtmurph - I'm glad you asked that question, I was getting ready to ask the same thing. How do you tell btwn the INA and the Torrington? I'm heading to the stealership this morning to pick up a Torrington, it's only $8 bucks so if it just hangs out no big deal.

So here is my list so far:

DONE:
I Ordered a Memphis shades batwing with 7" windshield- $300
Picked up a Badlander seat for non-touring duties and days with no tour pack - $200
Complete fluid change - $40

THIS WKND:
B Lifters - $207
EV27 Cam - $135
Shim set - $24.99
Torrington Cam Bearing - $8
New Primary Gasket - $85
Adjustable Push Rods - $77
Valve Service - My time
Keep an eye on the Sprocket Shaft Seal

$1,077 total, with $500 being for aesthetic purposes. Not too bad if it pretty much makes the bike bulletproof again.

As I said, I haven't had to mess with that bearing myself. There are some threads on the board here describing both types. I think you can read "INA" or "Torrington" on the bearing somewhere, probably the edge of the race, and I think the INA bearing has a plastic insert in it? Also, make sure the one you get from the dealer says "Torrington" on it and not "INA" or whatever, or you will be right back where you are. There's a special tool to pull the old bearing out, but I think some have used a HF puller or a puller borrowed from the auto parts store.

Buy quality push rods also. People have been disappointed with stuff off eBay when they bend or the nuts come loose. And make sure they are "Easy" install pushrods, because there are adjustable pushrods out there that you still have to pull the top of the motor off to put in, including those sold as "Screaming Eagle." Ask me how I know.

From the Touring board: I just got passed by this Evo that pulled the front wheel off when he hit 2nd. If I upgrade to a 103" high compression, flowed heads and big cams, will I be able to keep up?
