Sounds like valve seals, but you never know.
Because of the way the Evo is designed, you're going to need a complete top end rebuild to do either one. Though it is possible to work on the heads without replacing the base gaskets, I would not recommend it, too risky, and foolish. Also, anytime you remove the jugs you should replace the rings, too.
A full top end, with all gaskets, and valve seals, will probably solve your problem, an actual valve job is probably not needed unless you've got lots of miles on your bike, or you're looking for performance. Typically, Evos will run 50K miles between top ends, some more, some less, and you can get a couple of top ends between bottom end rebuilds.
I would say, if you've got a shop that will just hone the cylinders, and do the top end, assuming you're engine is in good shape otherwise, that you're looking at 5 hours of labor, give or take, and around $100 in gaskets and rings. If the shop won't touch the bike without boring the jugs and installing oversize pistons, which is not usually required, you're going to spend another few hundred bucks on pistons and machine work, probably $200ish each, again give or take. I would suggest not worrying about pistons and machine work unless a shop shows you a damaged piston or jug (think broken ring).
While you've got the top end apart, I would suggest doing a cam swap if the thought has ever entered your mind, or any other performance work, since most of the labor will already be out of the way, you're probably only looking at another hour or two labor plus parts.
I would also suggest taking the bike to a reputable indy, or shop that is familiar with evos, not the dealer. Not to say dealers don't know evos, some do, but the kid wrenching on your bike may never have done an evo top end, not as many going to the dealers anymore.

Need some additional information, such as total number of miles on the bike, any mods that have been done, what your riding style is.
Also, labor rates vary from state to state, and sometime inside the state. Where are you located?
