Heck George, I can't even spell R-22... but you can do some amazing things with JB Weld and a high volume vacuum pump

Do wish them luck and sounds like they beat me to the punch. I really have thought about that "cheat" a long time. I think it'd work fine assuming the spigot isn't actually broken loose and it's only a spot or 2 that's porous. Keep'n my fingers crossed.
sorry for the slow response, but I've been on the road home from my trip. I added some lucas to my oil and that seam to slow it down alot.
Sounds like blow-by then (lucas just reducing it), which in turn pushes your seal out. Had the similar problem. No "gluing in" a new seal helped. After rebuilding the top end, and just in case "gluing in the seal" the problem was gone.
went to the local indy shop to buy the shaft seal today. these guys are really good with a wrench. they told me, as many of you have, that the 89-90 model evo was prone to cracks in the case. they suspect this may be my problem also. they have use epoxy with vacum to seal the cracks on other bikes with success. they have done this on 6 bikes over the last 7 years and so far it has held up on all of them. thinking about letting them do that. cost will be around 100 dollars including the seal. what do ya think?
That's one way to fix it. Here's what I did on my '90 EVO that had a crank bearing leak...
Pull the primary..take the stator off..find the edge of the bearing. Spray break cleaner on it 3-4 times to make sure all the oil is gone.
Go to a machine shop and get a bottle of Loctite 290...run a bead of the 290 around the edge of the bearing and case..
Day 2...run another bead around the bearing...
Day 3...run another bead around the damn bearing...
Day 4...put it all back together..make sure you Loctite the 2 screws for the stator
I did this to mine and sold it 10 years later without any problems..
