Default Base Gasket Leak

How long can you let a base gasket leak go on. Yea its a PITA but cash flow is a little low. Its been leaking from the rear of the rear cylinder. At idle you can see it bubble. Leaking like that for about a year, 9,000 miles of riding.

That's one way to change the oil. That could depend on how bad it's coming out. Most of those gaskets are fibre/paper w/ a bead. Can't see it being a TC unless the o-ring is shot.

you can let it leak like that as long as you keep oil in it, personally, even if funds are low, id buy a cometic gasket kit 60 bux, and a manual. 30 bux and do it. besides a torque wrench, no special tools are needed and its very straighfoward. chad.

I found a Top End gasket kit from Cometic in Drag Spec. When I get her apart, what other bolt on's should I consider to get that "reliable" power. Emphasis on reliable, plan on doing Sturgis from SoCal. Or should I keep her as she was?

Well you'll have the heads off....Consider head work. Check your rocker arms, shafts, valve stems, seats, collars, springs. Freshen up your cylinders, rings.

the only thing i would do is maybe a ev27 camshaft, and rering the bike, also as far as a ring compressor, i found it actually more difficult to use a compressor around all the cylinder studs, so i have my pops come over, and i feed the rings in by hand, 100% percent success rate so far.

first leave the piston in the barrel, you can lift the barrel up enough to pop the clip and pull the pin. thats how i put mine back together, piston installed in the barrel and didnt nee a ring compressor just small screw driver. after all thats how they use to, and maybbe still , install the porsche 911 barrels, with the pistons installed in them then line up the pin. it really pretty easy to do. i had to heli-coil a front head bolt on mine. i know next time to coat the base gasket with permatix ultra grey, i dont care what any body says about not using it i know it works and havent found any one that had any problems after doing it that way.

I cleaned mine up and used some pourable silicone and it seems to have stopped it. That was over 2 years ago. There's a thread about some where on this site. That's where I got the idea. Cheap fix and it worked for me.
