HD may have some parts worth complaining about, but I have always liked the OEM gaskets. I use them where ever I can. The head gasket is the only exception that I can think of right now. I like Cometic head gaskets.

I use a click type on big stuff like crankpins and flywheel shafts, but for everything else I use a dial-type.

I'd really like to see a really good, clear photo of a Cometic head gasket. The OEM head gaskets are now made by Victor with a graphite/carbon-like composite and use no o-rings plus the fire ring is NOT thicker than the rest of it. I kinda like that.

Default gaskets

Here's what I was saying about gaskets. The '93 and earlier with short primarys (FLT/FXR/FLH) all the way back to the 79 Shovel FL 5 speed with electric start used the first photo type gasket - which HD doesn't offer and most companies don't make anymore. The second photo shows what most places sell now including ALL foam/metal types. Thing is, the absence of the extra bar lets road crap build up in the void and always makes a mess no mater how well you clean it. Silicone or a piece cut from the old gasket as a filler helps...

I have always had B motors, so I never had to deal with that issue.

Darn shame. I would think the sylicone fix would be hard to do because of the wrinkle finish you have to keep it off of.

Personally always start in the middle and rotate out to the ends.Be gentle 1/4" bolts in aluminum can turn into frustration.
