I'll be replacing my cover soon with a chrome one i fond was wondering if there is a pattern to the bolts and what tork they should be tightened to
cant find anything in my service manual
all so what gaskets do you all recommend and what is the name of the bearing i need for in my cover so i don't ask for the wrong one
Just go around them in light steps. I usually start in the middle and work out to the ends, but no biggie. About 8 ft/lb is all they'll stand. Primary gaskets cost too much no matter who makes them and no matter the brand, they won't have the extra bar made for the corner at 10 o'clock of the clutch area. James used to, but they either don't make them or nobody carries them. If they do, it's James# 34901-79A or DS# 174321, If you can't get that one, just go with OEM.
I did mine, easy. Just common sense, lightly tighen them going from one side and crossing to the other, but use an inch/lbs torque wrench. It says in Clymers manual what to do it at. I think its like 24"/lbs. I think I used a Cometic gasket, metal in the middle and black on the outside. I got an "/lbs torque wrench at Harbor Tool and freight, I probably use it more than a foot/lbs torque wrench on my bike.

Starter shaft bearing OEM# 9063
Do as T150 suggests 110 -115 inch pounds maximim, do not use a foot # torque wrench. If you can find a Cometic primary gasket they are the best. In most cases they can be used twice before they are a throwaway. They are a bit more expensive, but do not leak.
You can use a foot lbs. torque wrench. Just make sure you convert feet to inches!
Yes you can, but you loose the feel. Most foot # wrences are 1/2" drive. The inch # wrench is 3/8" drive. There's difference in the length of the wrench and therefore the feel. Both my foot # and inch # torque wrences are calibrated and match my partners. That way we know they are right.
