Your thoughts on this.
I have an 88 Electra Glide that I was going to do a top end job on this winter. That fell through because of shoulder surgery but one of the things I was going to do was re paint the barrels because it's all flaking off and looks like a goats ****.
do you think it's possible to scrub the fins clean, mask it off & hit it with a coat of high heat black or am I being foolish? I start work soon & wont have time until next winter to pull it apart but I dont want it to look like that any more!
Any advise or suggestions would be awesome!

I've done exactly what you're describing on two or three evo's I've had. If you don't blast the old stuff off, a wire brush works pretty good. Tape everything off and have at it. It'll look like new. Mine did. You can take sandpaper and polish the tip of the fins after it dries.
I did my top end last year. Didnt get a chance to blast it, but I did wash it down with hot soapy water and painted it with high temp engine paint.. The key to it is to make sure to bake it on, maybe with a space heater directed to one spot at a time... Definitly do-able.. Just tape everything off and carefully wipe the fins while their wet..
Im going to prep the bike tomorrow. I have heard of some guy's using barbecue paint but Im going to stick with a good high heat automotive paint so there will be no issues!
thanks for the replies so far!

Exactly, if you want someting to last it must be prepared properly and not half A$$ed. Send them off and have them powdercoated and they will last. Google Final Touch Powder Coating and give Roger a call. He's a good guy who does a quality job at a fair price.

But seriously, class act on that paint work. Really impressive
