What kind of mileage are you guys getting with your EVOs? I had a 2002 Sportster 1200S that got 45 to 50 MPG. When I picked up the Road King, I had expected more range between fill ups with the 5 Gallon tank but I've been getting 34 to 39 MPG so not so much on the range. I need to adjust the warm idle, my timing light tach tells me it's a bit high (1210). I'm also about to put in an EV27 cam, should I expect better or worse mileage afterwards. I'm using a REvtech DFO since I'm running a 96 ECM (nonmappable), so maybe I need to play with that a bit as well. Just curious as to what others have experienced at the pumps.
Your mileage should go up with the 27 because of the different timing and lobe angles. I have no fuel infection experience, so I can't offer any facts there. But on a carbed, stock 1340 an N grind (later model stock cam) and an L grind (older model stock) gave me consistantly horrible mileage versus several aftermarket performance cams I've experimented with...
1998 FLHRC-I with an EV27, Power Commander (custom map done with sniffer in the exhaust), into the wind, 2 up, pulling a trailer ..get ready ..24MPG!! Normal driving was around 35 MPG and at the end I got it up to 40MPG. It did OK around town but when it got on the highway not so good.
'99 FXR2 carbed. K&N air filter and slip-on, otherwise completely stock. I use this bike mostly around town and for riding to work. I get a pretty consistent 40-42
96, mine does about 42 miles a gallon. I pull in when the trip meter shows 160 miles, my gas gauge shows empty, it's the led Kuryakan one, when I get to the pump it only takes 3 1/2 gallons, so I know I could go further, but why get that floating garbage that is in the gas on the injecters.
Hope my milage is close when I do the carb conversion.
Once I get the cam in and tame the warm idle, I'll get back and post some numbers. I'm probably about average, I'm sure that high idle is sucking some fuel.
97 FLHR setup as a Streetglide. Cam, P&P, S&S Super E, Stock headers and SE slip ons was getting about 38.
Just went to True Duals, and rebuilt the carb, fixed some intake leaks. Riding to Laughlin tomorrow, will update revised mileage after that. I usually fill up at the 120-150 mark.
