Default removing paint from engine

when i bought my bike, about 5 years ago, the engine had recently been rebuilt and painted. well the paint is looking bad, worn through in places. just wounder if i should just go ahead and strip it and if so what would be a easy way of doing that. i really dont want to take the motor out of the bike or have to strip everything off it.

Start it up in the garage, set the throttle to about 4,00 RPM's and come back in about two hours, that should do it!! Now on a more serious note, if it's powdercoat you will probably need to get it blasted to get it off. If it is paint then stripper will take it off, however neither of these can be done effectively in the frame. Do not follow the instructions in the first sentence under any circumstances.

I went at mine with a wire brush in the frame. I re painted it with all other parts masked off. It looks really good & will last until I pull it out next winter for a re build!

I like the silver heads. It looks real good. I have been thinking about the same thing on mine, but I will have to wait for next winter to pull it out of the frame. What did you use for paint? I would like to see the assembled bike too. Please post some pics when finished...

Take a pressure washer with the smallest tip and it will remove much more than most people think. Give it a try, damn sure won't hurt anything, just don't spray your wiring directly.

Hi

I'm doing mine right now, but took it out the frame to get some other things done.

I don't think it would be too easy to leave it in and mask it right.

I stripped the transmission and engine casing with diy store paint stripper (wear gloves), wire wool, and an old tooth brush, then used brake cleaner to degrease.

The cylinder barrels and heads, I got glass bead blasted, just got one painted so far.

I used VHT engine enamel, gotta be better than the brush paint the PO used.

Cheers

Paul

PS Those silver heads do look good................. hmmmm

im not taking it out of the frame until i have to. i know that would be the best, and really the easiest, way of doing it. but it runs great and other than that it looks good. great weather here, 75 - 90 degrees so its time to ride. think ill try the masking and touch up. should look good until i have to take it apart, in fact i really need to strip everything down and even have the frame done. guess ive been thinking about it ever sense the laughlin run. almost every bike i saw looked like new. made me look at mine harder.
