Default EVO oil

What king of oil are you using in your EVO?
Not sure if I should ask only for Dressers or if it matters.
Reason for asking ...
I have an 89 flhtp and I did a motor rebuild and used the Cometic metal multi layer head gasket with the Amsoil 20/50 synthetic and the head gasket leaked oil , I changed the oil over to the HD straight 20/50 and no more oil leak. Does the rebuilt EVO perhaps not like the Amsoil on a fresh top end or is it the cometic head hasket that doesn\t like the Amsoil?
Thanks for participating

I put Mobil 1 in my EVO once and it leaked and used oil like crazy...changed it out and put regular Castrol 20/50 ...no more leaks or oil usage...been running it for 15 years no problems.

I run Castrol 20-50 GTX in my 99 Softail Custom. I only have 23,000 on it, but so far no leaks, and it don't use any oil. I was thinking of changing to synthetic, and then I read about guys running their EVO,s 150,000 with no problems using Castrol, so am going to stay with it.

Talking evo oil

Heres a thought... I did this and loved it..

1) Pure power oil filter See www. gopurepower.com
2) Rotella T 15-40 Non Synthetic
3) After 15 to 20 miles my dyna ran quieter( Valve train)

According to Kelly at pure power, Synthetic oils have alot of plastics in them... This causes the plastics to coat the cylinder walls and create a non mechanical seal between walls and rings... Result is loss of compression, horsepower and of course power...

The filter is $200.00, but is a lifetime filter with a 20 micron filter screen...

According to pure power, changing to their filter and running the rotella T
will result in a true mechanical seal between rings and cylinder walls...

I tried it, noticed performance went up... Motor even sounded different..

Just a thought!!!!

Hey Lynn, I tried the Mobil one for about 3 oil changes. Made my topend too noisy and used a little oil. Switched back to the HD dino oil and it quieted it and stopped using oil. Planning on using the Castrol GTX 20W50. My evo with 49000 miles definitely does not like the synthetic.
