hot/cold exhast gases

Just rubuilt top end of a 84 FXRS and started it up the front cyl.has hot gasses coming out and the rear is much colder . Could this be a push rod adj. problem or a coil spark issue?

any other engine symptoms? loss of power from previously? rough running? Maybe an intake manifold leak or weak or no spark in the back jug but I would think it would run rough. But I, am no expert, I'm sure one will show up.

The front cylinder is working as it should. The rear is not working as it should. Check compression and spark, those results should get you looking in the right direction. Hope this helps.

I am not sure if EVO's do it like the older shovels, but on those they ran with different timing on the rear cyl, than on the front. They did this because the rear cyl. normally runs hotter than the front. So it may run cooler till it gets warmed up a little. My 84 Sportster was that way.

It seems to get hotter as it is ran longer .I will do a few checks today and see if i can figure it out .Thanx for steering me .

These engines are very picky on plug gap. Make sure you are at least 0.038, no more than 0.041.
Swap your plugs around as well & see if the cylinder problem moves.
