There are many aftermarket exhaust options that will increase power somewhat, including low restriction slip-on mufflers. To make a significant increase you need to change the cam.
+1 on the cam change. I did an air cleaner, 2-1 exhaust & power commander on my 98 RK EFI and had it dyno tuned. I was disappointed. I installed a Woods W6 cam and the bike ran better every where with no down side or other issues. Another benefit of the cam change was also a pick up of 3 MPG too.
First two mods I did to my 93, were SE air cleaner and SuperTrap slipons. Much better than the strangled stock EVO that the Guvment required The MoCo to produce.
Next was the EV27 cam. Only after that was installed and the CV carb was dyno tuned, did the bike perform like I would expect from an 80" engine. You aren't going to get much 'smile factor', until you replace the stock cam with something ground to your riding style.
For a 2-1 exhaust, you would do hard to beat a Thunderheader on an EVO.
Its unfortunate that the two into one exhaust set up does not give the aestheitc look that I like. But... I do want the bike to breathe and perfrom better.
Ya, and the only thing worse than having to look at fake ***** is having to fondle them.
Good thread. I was thinking about this today. I have a 98 fxd and I've been wanting to put in a new cam. I have about 24K miles on mine. I guess my question is, as far as bang for buck as well as reliability, what else should you replace when putting in a new cam?
