Engine paint peeling
I just did mine, the PO had brush painted the engine!!
I used VHT Engine Enamel. Had the jugs and heads bead blasted first, then masked and sprayed.
I used a heat gun to cure the paint to make sure it was tough enough for rebuilding.
Then used a dremel and fine abrasive cylinder to do the edges.
Cheers.
Paul.

X2 I like the all black look too....I repainted mine (inner primary, cylinders & cases) after doing the clutch a couple of months ago...hopefully it'll still look good in a couple years
I have found that a third beer makes the unmasking and cleanup process much more enjoyable, too!
I have never seen a motor repaint on a older Evo that looked good close up. The cylinder paint does not match the cases, etc.
I was lucky I guess. I had a oil leak on the rear cylinder bottom. So I pulled both cylinders and replaced the rings to freshen the motor. Before installing every thing I took paint remover and removed all of the paint on the heads and cylinders.
I saw others do the same thing and thought it looked much better than repaints. I like it much more. It looks better and I do not have the hassle of peeling or fading paint.

Just painted my whole motor/transmission with a paint brush and 500 degree flat black engine paint. took about 8 hours total, including sanding the fins. made a huge difference.
I Don't have a before pic but was all painted with a thin paint brush and used emery paper to sand the fins down

I Know It's Been A While, But I Am Hoping You Can Remember What Brand Satin Black Paint You Used To Paint ThIs Engine.

Here's a couple of pic's of mine when I did the top end. One pic is the faded jug's, another shows the black fins and the other is sanded. I used satin finish engine paint and baked it on. Obviously, you cant put the whole bike in the oven, so, when I did the case, I used a space heater to bake it. If you do it on a weekend that you can ride, once its dry to the touch, I'd go for a ride to bake it on. There's better ways, but not everyone has the time or resources to tear it down to do it at will. So, this works well in the interum.
When I bought my 1988 the paint was completely gone in places. I was washing it one nice early spring day, grabbed a can of flat black rustolium and a couple of brushes and went to work. I never thought it would last very long but, it still looks great. I didnt tape anything off, I was just real carefull not to get any on silver pieces. I used little brushes for the tight places and a slightly bigger brush in not so tight pkaces. I also grabbed a can of gloss and hit the less than shiney and rusty places on the frame to touch them up.
Now that's a redneck fer ya.
