has any one had any experence with useing any hot set up kits?
I was going to do this big build for my 93 fatboy, which im still going to do. but it is going to take me about 3yrs to get the money saved up with out going broke to do it all. I was thinking of useing the 80flss set up kit. it comes with 561 cam, super g or e carb and mainfold, adjustable pushrods, heads and 10:2:1 pistons. Im not sure what kind of power gain im looking at here? i know it will be a signifigant difference in power, but how much? im going to leave the pistons std bore, and get a twin tech ignition module with single fire ignition for it also.
You might as well get it with .010 or .020 pistons. Over time cylinders tend to get barrel shaped. The cylinder will need to get ball honed before you put new piston w/ new rings anyways otherwise it will never break in properly. I would suggest going the next size up, bring the pistons to the machine shop with your jugz so the can hone them out. My $.02
Unless your doing all the work yourself, it might be close to the same cost to drop in a crate S&S or Ultima. The Ultima 113 is under $4000 with a 1 year parts warranty and the S&S V111 (this is more of a touring engine, but it would still make your ride dance) is on sale now for $4650 with a 3 year parts and labor warranty. I'm leaning toward the V111 myself.
yes i am going to do all the work myself. i really dont have the extra dough to get the jugs bored out or to get an engine replacement now, it is the plan in the future. Thats why im just going to do the hot set up for now...
