Hey FLHS guys!
1990 FLHS here, owned from new. I rode it for the first 2-3 years with the original windshield, but wasn't too happy with it. It seemed to create a slight shimmy in the front end. A change to different tyres helped that, but I eventually fitted an early 80s glass-fibre batwing, which is just great. I did make my own mounting brackets and also trimmed the windshield to improve comfort.

Yeah, I've read a lot of you posts ere on the forum. Pretty knowledgeable about 'em.
Really I ask because I need a new windshield. The original is still on there and is de-laminating. I was considering getting one from Cee based on your suggestions, but I am also wanting to get a full face helmet as well. I'm thinking about getting the helmet and trying that out for a while without the windshield - RK style.
NorthGeorgiaHawg has replaced his in recent times I believe, with a slightly wider one than stock. Hopefully he will call by soon! There are also a few good threads over in Touring that cover a wide variety of windshield suppliers. There is plenty of choice out there.
The nice thing about Cee Bailey is that they are an aircraft windshield manufacturer, and the Lucite plastic they use is of aircraft quality. Lucite, unlike Lexan, can be polished or buffed to remove any scratches over time, which is very nice.
Stock price is about $120, but I paid about $155 - including the smoke color and the 2" wider-than-stock option. I'm really glad I went with the wider option - it looks better in my opinion, and diverts more of the wind around you when riding at highway speeds. You can get it even wider, and also taller or shorter.. They have lots of options on their web site because each windshield is manufactured to order.
If you get a Cee Bailey windshield, DO NOT use anything but plain soap and water to clean it! The alcohol in any window cleaner will craze the Lucite. They warn you about this in their literature.
Here's a pic... I even cleaned off all the bug juice from last weekend's ride, so you can see how nice it is! The smoke color isn't very visible in this pic though.

IMO, the bike doesn't look 'right' without the windshield on it. It's that big azz instrument cluster that detracts from smoothing out the front end.
Replace it with the Cee and ditch the full face helmet idea.... JMHO.

But, as she says, "I might go down, and if I do... I like my face!"
Thanks Holster Maker! I LOVE my Cee Bailey windshield!
I painted the lower dash enclosure silver... I think it looks much better than the flat black it was originally. It flows up from the chrome on the forks and is much less prominent. Makes the whole front end look like more of an integrated unit, I think.
