Default Whatever happened to "Blockhead"?

I'm guessing most of the Evo forum was alive, kicking and talking about bikes in 1984 when the all new "Blockhead" rolled out of the MOCO. And how Harley was SO against calling it anything but the Evolution Engine. So much so that they were almost completely successful in extinguishing the term Blockhead from magazines, books and catalogs...even aftermarket catalogs. What happened? I'm actually starting to hear people use the term every so often now. Is Blockhead coming back from the grave or are there just a few lone holdouts that still own Evo's but haven't yet faded away to the long highway in the sky??? Just wondering out loud I guess.

You don't hear it? Really? My girlfriend calls me that all the time. Seriously, true that you don't hear "blockhead" like you hear "flathead" or "panhead" or "shovelhead" or "knucklehead". The Evolution engine seems to have settled in with the nickname of "Evo" which I personally like better than "blockhead".

I noticed the name change about Y2K, probably when the non-sounding harley started.

Whenever people ask about the Evo I tell them the story of the Blockhead.

Yeah, I still hear it every so often. I can't remember the last time I actually said it. I think with the Twin Cams "Twinkie" is starting to catch on with the older crowd, so we may see blockhead start to make a comeback. Fathead gets tossed into the mix every so often and I always wind up confused over than one. I thought Fathead was the hybrid built Evo bottom and Twinkie top, but now the Twin Cam guys want to call the 88 and 96 inch bikes "Fathead" to combat the Twinkie designation. I just can't keep up with all these trends.

" Whatever happened to Blockhead?" Exactly what my girlfriend says when she needs me to fix her car and can't find me.

"Blockhead" just didn't catch on. Nicknames can't be forced, I guess. I remember when the Twin Cam came out, American Iron magazine tried to start calling it the Fathead. And they thought the V-Rod (water cooled), should be called the Showerhead. Neither nickname stuck, thank God.
