I remember back then. "Blockhead" was a name invented by Shovelhead guys who though the new aluminum Evolution engine was stupid: "Th'niver shoulda changed that eng'n! It ruined Hurley Davison... (rant, rant, rant)!" Sort of like the guys who put down the "Twinkie" these days: "Th'niver shoulda stopped making the EVO, best eng'n evar!"
HD was worried about the new Evolution engine not being accepted by the staunchly traditionalist Harley crowd so they were sensitive to any negative names. "Blockhead" never stuck, although I didn't mind the name. EVO is easier to say and easier to type on a forum. That said, I still fondly refer to my EVO as a Blockhead sometimes. It's part of the engine's history. The engine that saved Harley Davidson and made it a legend again.
