Default 1998 Heritage Springer EVO build???

Thinking about building EVO motor in my 1998 Heritage Springer. The question I have is, what's a nice reliable street motor with some power that wont rattle everything loose on my bike and me? Is there a proven kit or combo that works? I don't want to go with a after market engine. I want to try to keep my stock cases.

Stroked mine to 89”s and its smoother then what the stock motor was. Power increase is nice too. Stock cases, cylinders, and heads.

Thanks. What cam and who ported your heads? What kind of increase did you get?

The cam is the same EV27 that has been in the bike for years.

The heads were not ported. I did clean up (smoothed) the exhaust ports though. Using the black carbon as a guide (the carbon helped identify the low spots) I lightly ground them until the casting bumps and marks were smoothed out (most of the carbon was gone exposing the smooth aluminum). The intake sides were not touched. They were then sent off for a valve job. I do not spin this motor over 5000rpm (usually ride between 3000 – 3500) so the stock heads breath good enough. Head modification will stir debates (like which engine oil to use) and I am no “expert”. This is simply the route I decided to go after doing my own research into stock Evo heads.

The bike has not been dyno’d so the increase has been seat of the pants only. I can now easily cruise down the highway at 80 - 85mph, pull any grade, and have plenty of throttle left. Some of the same roads in the past (depending on conditions) had me downshifting to 4th to hold 70mph.

How is this motor "stroked" with everything left stock and where do you come up with this 89" number?

Stock bore, 4 5/8th flywheels, and shorter pistons.

3.5 x 3.5 x 4.625 x .7854 x 2 = 88.995
