If you had a Softail with factory forward controls, the master cylinder for the rear brake mounted to that bracket. The Softails with footboards used a different master cylinder setup.

Too late. He already butchered his frame!

(Just being a smartass). Might have done the same mod myself.

No, it definitely is not a mount for floorboards. Nothing connects to this bracket on my `89 Softail frame. Still has the original floorboards, exhaust, master cylinder and controls (owned it since new).

It is also not a bracket for sidecar mounting, the factory never offered sidecars for Softails, and in fact the owners manual specifically warns against using a sidecar on a Softail.

I always assumed it was used during the production process, and since it does not show, they simply left it on the frame.

But I don`t know about Softails with forward controls. I always thought all Softails had forward controls...

A few have tried to make this clear, but without success.
It is the master cyl mount, for softails without floorboards. Nothing else at all.
I did not state this earlier, as I assumed the other posters would be believed.

On mine I believe my clutch cable was routed through that hole.

some people just don't get it, even after they've been told more then once. I'd bet people will still make guesses.

Yeah people are funny that way!! So would the non floorboard equipped softails have a similar bracket farther fwd where our master cylinders are mounted???
