I like the Super E. Makes good power. A CV might be better for mileage, though. Properly tuned, those CV's seem to make good power and are quite popular.
Yeah, somethin' ain't right. I can do over 100 with a bat wing faring. I once rode across S.D. on I-90 at 90+ pretty much the whole way. My speedo was broke and I just set the tach at like 4000-4200 in 5th and left it there. I did notice I was passing a lot of people. Then these 2 twinkies passed me like I was standing still. So that's how I know that SOME twinkies can actually move, but most of them just get passed.
based on my current set-up.. what is the next best steps to get the ol' girl up and moving? I want go pull through all the gears w/ bullet-proof reliability.
It's done with the throttle cables. Take the aircleaner off and check to see if the carb is wide open when you give it full throttle. If not the adjust the cables until you have it and it does not stick.

i will tell you this, all i run is the cv carbs like that is currently on your bike, and i make just as much hp and usually better torque than any s&s bikes, seems to be a bit of a waste to put a ignition and carb on the bike with the stock anemic hd camshaft, the hot set up i run is wiseco 10 to 1 pistons with a evl 3020 camshaft, woods kt1 needle, with no head work, the bike WILL make 80/80, or be right on the borderline. Once your ride a bike set up like this, you often wonder why harley never let these evos leave the factory like this. With these tasteful modifications, ive seen no reliability issues in any of the bikes ive built, I had 30 k miles on this exact set up before a deer took the bike out, hope that helps. chad.
oh and ps, on a 96 flt with this set up, it will do 100 + with alot of throttle left.

Anyway, either fix what you got or upgrade.
One of those twinkies happen to be a black cherry pearl bagger?
Top speed of 80? Doesn't sound at all right for an evo.....
It been recently dyno'd..........Tops out around 80-85 mph.
Either you have the worst dyno tune ever, or the motor is seriously worn out.
A stock evo easily runs 100 mph, no trouble. Even with dead stock exhaust(prob flat out at 100).
Sportster black box(more aggressive adv curve, as XL have a shorter stroke, and a higher rev limit for the same reason), CV correctly set-up(with some kind of K+N filter), basic slip on mufflers, voes at 6 inches Hg, and you are good to go for next to nothing.
Baby cam if you like. Ev 27 would certainly be an easy bolt in(new B138 brg is a good idea). You can go LG, and even reuse stock P'rods if desired.
Are you actually even getting full throttle?????????
