Thanks for that NorthGeorgHawg, explained well and makes perfect sens.
Not waiting to get pins as they would be a special order from Ireland. So checked both cams as best as I could and as my old one has a blue mark on it, and the pinion gear has a red mark on it and Andrews say if the old cam is red or blue there should be no problem. So have fitted it as and shimmed it ok.
At least I can now get on with the top end re-build and hope all will be ok when I start it.
Will let all know how it goes.
Again, thanks to all for input.

Tony - I didn't even notice you are in Dublin!

My wife (NorthGeorgiaButterfly here) and I were on the other side of the island in Shannon back in Feb 2008. She was on business there, and I tagged along with my laptop 'cause I can work from anywhere. You live in a wonderful country. We had a great time there - toured the southwestern part of Ireland, had dinner in a castle one night, and made some Irish friends in the hotel bar drinking Guiness and Kilkenny, and eating "mushy peas". We're both part Irish, so it was really cool to finally get to see it. We want to go back and see Dublin someday, too.

OK, so about the cam gear... Red is right in the middle of the cam gear size range (2.7487" to 2.7491"), and blue is right next to it and a bit larger (2.7492" to 2.7496") - so either would probably work. As you said, you get the whine if it's too tight... better a little loose than too tight. I got lucky when I installed my EVL-3010 - I got it with a gear on it, and both it and my existing pinion gear were red, and the measurements of the old and new cam gears came out to only like .0001" difference, so I was able to use it with my existing pinion gear.

Good luck with the top-end rebuild!
