Default Luggage advice?

This is on my '96 FLHR. I'm wanting to keep it setup as a solo bike and thinking that rather than riding my Ultra, I may want to take the Road King on some overnighters.

I've been looking everywhere for a luggage rack that will work with a solo seat on this thing. I figure with a thumbscrew, I could pop one on and off as needed when I want to hit the Blue Ridge for a long weekend or whatever.

Problem is I'm coming up with nothing, nada, zip on solo luggage racks for this thing. Motherwell makes one that says it will fit '97 and up, or fuel injected 96 FLHRCI.

So, any ideas on where to get a solo luggage rack for this thing, or some way to get a weekend bag going on a solo '96 FLHR? I suppose, pack light and use the saddlebags, eh?

When running the solo seat and no tourpak on mine i have a little leather fender bib thing that sits on the back, then i just strap a holdall bag direct to the fender, the bib protects it from scratches.

A speciality of some of us is to prove that Harley stuff can be fitted to earlier models, with a little imagination and effort! I haven't tried a solo rack myself, but hopefully someone will call by and help soon. Do you know anyone with a 97 or later with one fitted, so you can see what it is like? Sometimes it doesn't take much to fit later things. Best of luck!

Thanks guys

I like the fender bib idea. I've got rails on the saddlebag lids, I could probably tie off to those, or put a backrest on the Corbin seat and get one of them bags that hangs off the backrest.

As far as things fitting across models. I'm finding that the '96 had some unique dimensions on it. Things seem to fit 95/96 and 97 - up. Seems like stuff that fits the majority of the FLHR world is off an inch here, an inch there, just enough to be problematic.

No worries, if this is the bulk of my problems, life is pretty darn good

Stainless flat stock can be your friend! a little bending and drilling and you have a new bracket.

What's the simplest way to create more room for an over nighter? Throw it own your back.

Yea, you have a point. I've taken to loading up all my underwear and socks with holes in them on trips. I just throw that stuff away as the trip goes on to make room for the t-shirts I pick up along the way. Leave on a 5-day trip, take 5 pairs of socks/underwear. Come home w/just what I got on and 3-4 new t-shirts

Well anyway, I got a lot more work to do on this thing before Maggie Valley in the Fall. Still not convinced I want to make major mods to it or flip it.

I put some Cycle Shack slash-ups on it and got rid of that goofy V shaped air cleaner. Runs better, sounds better, looks better. With all the ideas I have for this thing, I may have a project bike for life.
