What year and type model Harley is this "POS" Evo attached to?

IMHO, a properly maintained Evo is a fantastic engine. I'm guessing if you're having trouble maintaining an Evo, you probably won't fare a whole lot better with a Panhead or a Shovelhead.

No I have worked on them though. I have had an 80 Ironhead for 15 years and just bought this Evo last month. I it is an 88 1340 off an FXR that a guy in High Point NC built in 05. Don't know how well maintained it was (it has been sitting a year inside an uphosltery shop) Now I am having problems with starting. Been on it a month and 2 mechanics come over and look at it, so far we don't know the problem still working though. I was a pre-evo (Shovel, Knuckle, Pan Iron-Head mechanic at Alternative Cycles in Danville, VA from open till close back in 96-97) and never ran across this before. So far we have went through it all a few times, sure it is something simple but it's the issue of finding it. It had all new gaskets and seals and 740 miles after rebuild (I was told) Title says 5,123 miles and so does odometer. Called previous owner about it and he says it started fine for him although he had not started it in a few months. So I guess I will tear into it again Sunday and try to figure it out.

Did it start out of a POS when you bought it or did you turn it into a POS? Good luck with that Suzuki.

Started this way, thought it was just the battery, it had been sitting a year. Put in a new battery and went down for there (Read my starter posts)

Well said, gents.
Like anything else, maintenence is key.
The EVO motor is indeed a fantastic engine.
I've passed up many a Twin Cam for a low mile EVO, and that's a fact.
Set up properly and taken care of as they should be, they are as close to bullet proof as you're going to find.
