It is interesting, Now days there's a PCIII and a PCV available, which would lead one to believe there formerly was a PCI, PCII, and a PCIV at one time or another. Maybe an earlier attempt failed over the long haul?

Technology left each one behind, Don't know about a PC1, PCII was a fuel altering only system that was a serial port connection, PC3 was a fuel and timing change system but still a serial port connection, PC3 USB was a homerun that is sophisticated but still easy to use and the USB made connections easy, skipped the PC4 and jumped to the PCV that has autotune capabilities and now a Vision Commander is on the market but since I went to a carb I lost interest in these gadgets. Have a PC2 on the shelf, sold the PC3 and replaced them with a CV, Mikuni and little boxes full of jets and grunt like a caveman when working on them.

Since going to a carb, only problem I have is seeing those little numbers on the jets, heck of alot harder seeing those numbers than programming an EFI tuner

Bret, if you can find the race tuner, you have a Superman cape on.

I couldn't find the race tuner-the bike was GONE! I checked the website the night before I left to see if it was still there, drove well over an hour to go see her, then the stealership tells me she was sold last Saturday!! Gave them contact info, told them I would see them on Tuesday AND they didn't remove the listing from thier website four days after it was sold! Guess it wasn't meant to be....really wanted to try and get that cape though!!

Would appreciate hearing from anyone who converted a '96 FLHFI to carb. What carb., other parts, results and an estimate of cost. Bike now has 40K miles and wondering if worth the conversion?

I did the EFI to carb conversion a year ago and I think it was worth it.

I had an S&S E with manifold laying around and was tired of the EFI acting up.

I did the work myself, nothing too spectacular. Hardest part was getting the fuel pump out of the tank and drilling out the bungs in the tank. Someone (Pingel) makes an adapter kit to convert the EFI tank to accept an Pingel petcock and block off what was the "return" bung.

I went with a Crane Hi-4 ignition. You'll also need a 32402-83 ignition rotor.

PM me for more details but I'd do it again in a heartbeat!!

I'd like to have that info in case I'd ever want to do the swap.I'll copy and paste it in a document file. Thanks

Default EFI to Carb conversion - 1996 FLHTCI

Alright....I'm doing this from memory so please bare with me....

I had an S&S E with manifold laying around and was tired of the EFI acting up.

Pingel makes an adapter kit to convert the EFI tank to accept an Pingel petcock and block off what was the "return" bung. Otherwise you'll have to find a "carb" tank. It was tricky to drill out the fuel lines without buggering up the threads on the bung. The fuel pump will come out and the sender for the fuel gauge will remain.

I went with a Crane Hi-4 ignition. I like that unit for it's versatility. I picked up a VOES and wired that in too. Believe it or not, this was the part that the local HD dealer had no clue on.

You'll also need a -83 ignition rotor. The EFI rotor WILL NOT WORK. (don't ask me how I know.)

You'll need the carb ignition wiring harness. It's an OEM part, and I don't have the part number. I got mine from Chicago HD online.

I just took my time removing all the EFI components and wiring. I mounted the Crane unit where the ECU had been. Follow the instructions on setting the timing.

As far as cost.....(best I can recall)

Super E $200 Had laying around
Manifold 35 Had laying around
VOES 10 Ebay
carb ignition harness 80 Chicago HD online OEM 32435-94
-83 OEM ignition rotor 20 Local HD Dealer 32402-83
Pingel bung conversion kit 65 Think I got that from the local indy shop
Crane Hi-4 240 Local indy shop
Total 650

I'm still running my EFI cam....I will swap to an EV-27 when I do a complete tear down at 100K miles. Bike runs very strong, no flat spots. If I keep my wrist out of it (70 mph-ish) I can get 40+ mpg but my bike likes to run 80 and my mileage is in the upper 30's.

I'll go see if I can pull the part number for the carb ignition wiring harness and post that up.

Any questions, just ask. Anybody looking for a box of '96 EFI parts...let's make a deal!!

For those of you that want a fully programmable aftermarket ignition, the Ultima/Dyna 2000I kit replaces the nose cone module and coil. The supplied wiring harness has the tach wire, voes wiring and simply hardwire the power supply wire into the factory white wire/black tracer located under the right side of the fuel tank.
Installing the Pingel adapter correctly into the tank is the hardest part, a little nerve racking if you have real nice paint.

Questions for others that have done this conversion on some parts listed above, I didn't think that a stock fuel valve will fit a Pingle adapter unless you removed the filter screen and the T/C carb harness 32435-00 needs to be cut/spliced and not a direct plug and play, I know the Evo carb harness is discontinued and a direct plug and play. These are a couple of things that I would like to know and might help the next guy doing the conversion.

On the conversion, miss the cold start/idle quality of the EFI but after getting the carb dialed in, it has been positive for a warmed up Evo

Found the carb ignition wiring harness...it's part # 32435-94 here's a link:http://www.chicagoharley.com/shop/ad...a0d004&x=0&y=0

It should be a "plug and play" operation with this harness, IIFRC!

and for the ignition rotor:
