Question What do you pack on long trips?

I gots the cabin fever bad. So thinking ahead to the 500+mi. Sturgis trip this year.

92 FLHTC 95K mi. No issues.

So what all would you guys take for tools and parts for such a trip?

Keep in mind, we'll need to save room for rain gear and two pair of glasses.

Set of combination wrenches, 3/8" drive socket wrench with sockets and an extension or two. Allen wrenches. Mexican Speed Wrench (AKA: Crescent type Wrench), Vice Grips, screwdrivers, hatchet, file, the original Harley tool kit that came with my bike. With all that and having to buy one or two odds and ends like a torque wrench, I did this behind the motel in Pierre a couple years ago on the way back from Sturgis:

As for parts, I carry a spare clutch finger, which your bike doesn't use, some used but good spark plugs, a quart of oil, and some misc. pieces like bits of wire, nuts, bolts, hose clamps, piece of tubing to splice oil lines with, piece of hose, etc. Cheap clutch cable, throttle cable. Probably still a 530 chain master link in there somewhere left over from shovelhead daze. I'm pretty sure I leave the chain breaker at home now.

I do have to admit that my "stuff to carry" has been getting larger and larger over the decades. Used to be that I just left with the HD tool kit.

I bring a bit of electrical wire as well as electric tape. Also a bit of bailing wire. And duck tape! I have been pretty fortunate on road trips, but my friend I travel with breaks down on EVERY trip we have ever taken!

I've amassed a small tool kit based upon the tools that are used for normal and routine service. I take along a spare set of plugs (although I've never needed them). Add in some electric tape, wire cutter/strippers, a few hose clamps, a couple shop rags, cell phone, and my Credit Card. I'm not as energetic (or skilled) as Dr. Hess.

Yeah, hose clamps, zip ties (very handy), black tape, tad of duct tape, trash bags (real handy), my digital multi meter, alligator clip leads, needle nose pliers, wire cutters, and a Star PD because 9mm's are for girls.

Be careful up there, George. A friend of mine from the U.P. was riding his softtail in Wisconsin, just out for a ride. He went around a turn and a car was stopped in front of him for a deer in the road. RIP, Leon.
