I guess this could go in touring just as easy but I'm thinking the newer tourers have a better setup. To the topic I was curious if you guys have done any modifications to the oil tank drains on the flh, I find mine to be a real pain getting at the drain plug, I have to first pull the outer cover and then when I do pull the plug its draining all over the pipe. I found a fine thread CAT brass fitting that I was going to put a 3/8 inch hose on the opposite threaded end along with hose clamps and on the other end of the line a 3/8 bolt in the line snugged up with a couple hose clamps. This setup I think would make it alot easier for oil changes, all I would need to do is pull the hose clamps and take the 3/8 bolt out and drop it to the oil pan.
Any other ideas guys?

 

My wife's '05 sportster has a setup like you mentioned, and it works fine.,,

 

I use the cardboard tube out of kitchen tissue rolls. Undo the drain plug until it is almost out, offer up tube and finally undo the plug. It will go down the tube into your bowl, along with all the oil. Simples! I was in the garage yesterday and realised I had several tubes waiting for their moment!

 

Good point, I'm familar with that setup, I should maybe look up the part they use in the drain to attach the hose to.

 

Issue is more I don't like having to pull the outer oil tank cover off to get to the drain.
