I discovered that the Indy mixed jet kits. The Thunderslide needle and needle holder/emulsion tube are quite different from the "standard" jet kit and that the parts can't be mixed. So I put the correct parts back in. This is the first time I've swapped out carb jets, and at first ride, it seems fine. Now to fill up the tank and see what I've done. I may go to the Indy and educate him on how not to choose a DynoJet kit.
I would educate him after you get a refund. I have dynojet jets and stock jets and there is an obvious difference at first glance. I would expect him to know that already.
I'll second the E-Z kit. I had Thunderslide in my 87 softail and it ran crappy, got poor gas mpg, and also got the decel popping that you described. Changed it all out for E-Z and it went great for thousands of miles!
im in the same boat as texas rider. but took the carb back to stock parts only to be rewarded with 35mpg. I called michael cory at dynojet talked to him, he seemed to think high 40's was possible with a thunderslide kit, just low speed jet to 42. my bike runs like crap with a 42, its at 50 now. another thing to check, is for counterfeit jets or counterfeit ts kits. check the dynojet web site there is a page about the counterfeits. check your jets under magnification to see if there are any burrs or bits of metal in there. pjmotorsports sells a nice jet cleaning tool that will clean them up for less than 15.00. if you find a solution let me know. I am in the same boat, but spent a lot more money to solve it so far only with poor results.
The dynojet kit IME will not optimize mpg. The emulsion tube in the DJ kit is the reason IMO. You can try to adjust the needle to improve the milage but risk being too lean in the cruise range & that could cause damage. Take it back...
I run almost the same set up with great results . About 46mpg .
Sorry for necro-posting on this thread but I am in a quandary about my CV. Bought the rebuild kit from CV Performance and hated the results ever since doing so. Throttle pops on decal nearly every time. Adjusted the idle mix screw (which eventually fell out, so I re-installed the original) to no avail. Eventually conceded defeat and just rode with the pops. The missus bought be a Roland Sands air cleaner and shortly thereafter my girl starts with some serious hesitation on accel. A couple of shops suggested that tuning was the issue and one said install a Dynojet due to the increase in airflow.
Any thoughts or recommends? I still have the other jets included in the CV rebuild kit, would those come in handy? Anyone with jet recommendations? Suggestions?

sounds like you have a air leak either intake or exhaust ,I've used the CV performance kit on a few bike & never had any trouble , 95in TC two different sportys & two EVO's all run great no decal pops ,I would dump the dyna jet kit & go with CVP anytime ,& never drill out the needle hole
More than one has recommended not to go with Dynojet so I am going to try swapping out the smaller jets that came with the CVP kit (46 Pilot for 48 and 195 Main for 190). I have checked for leaks and there are none that I can find, but when I am working on the carb I will look again.

The hesitation on acceleration indicates a lean condition, the result of adding the air cleaner. If the kit needle is adjustable raise it (needle controls midrange) until you get the midrange squared away.
The large pilot is probably causing most of decal popping. Drop a size or two and readjust the idle.

I think the 190 main should be about right.
You bring up some interesting thoughts, so here is what I did and the interim results:
Swapped both jets for the larger and added 4 1mm washers to the needle to raise it. Did the garage test (raining, so not gonna ride) and the initial results were promising but not finished. Decel pop appears to be either eliminated or at the very least, attenuated. Hesitation on accel also appears diminished but really rough at the start of the throttle turn. Should have better weather tomorrow so I will road test then. NH, give me your thoughts on how a smaller pilot jet would eliminate the pops. I would truly like to know the physics behind it if able.
