Adding some more pics of the snap ring that I would recommend to have the right tool to remove. Installed the mainshaft drive gear that I used the cold gear and warm bearing to slide the the main bearing over the mainshaft that worked great.

Nice getting close, is there a certain break in you need to do?

Little more progress tonite, got the shift drum side clearance set up, sets up @ .005" +/- .003".
Set up shift pawl clearance by the ecentric screw with precison eyeball (lol) and ran the gears up and down to confirm good shifting.
If you have engine/trans chrome covers on the trapdoor side, alterations will need done because of the 3/8 thicker trapdoor, if your exhaust bracket mounts to the lower trapdoor bolts, it will need cut down

Gump, transmissons should have the bearings lubed during installation and then run it. I believe John(Mia) reported that the Ultima's are a little noisy when new and calm down with some miles so I guess that could be a break in period.

Remember to leave at least .100 between the inner race and the end of the transmission when you press it on the mainshaft or you won't be able to pull it next time.

Thanks John, couldn't get the puller on it this time and had to cut it off. Getting a game plan together on how far to put the new one on and you took care of that.

Sorry for the stretched out length of this project but working 12-14 hour days and 8 on Sat but trans is together and fired the bike up, can't road test until a speedometer block off plug arrives.

Trans still had Redline shockproof stuck to it and put the Redline back in it, impressive stuff but costly @ $14.00 a qt plus shipping. My take on the installation is have the right tools, good set of snap ring pliers, main bearing removal tool. Purchased the Cometic gasket kit and had all of the seals for the inner primary except the engine block oring and worked out well and on the big bikes, you will need a oil fill spout spacer.

The extended length trapdoor will make the trans mounted exhaust bracket needing altered and any chrome covers around that trapdoor will need some work, metal cutters and welder is needed so prepare for some fabrication.

Hope to bounce it down the road this week to check out the Baker and get back on the Harley therapy which is well needed.

Ok, took the Baker out for it's first road test and have to agree with the quality feel of the Baker, the 5 speed shifted fine but the Baker is just a little bit smoother, more positive on shifts and no upper gear noise as reported with many 6 speeds.
Strange feeling with the low final gearing I have and always trying to pull another gear and now there is one there, satisfied with the initial test of the 6 speed and will get some more miles on it.
