93 Custom Softail
I have a general question...
I might have the opportunity to pickup a 1993 custom Softail.
The bike was supposedly totally redone from the frame up, custom paint with airbrushing, custom wheels, custom tank, Cam, pipes, drag bars, custom seat, dual coil ignition.. etc...
My question is, there is no documentation on how many miles are on the bike originally since the tank was replaced with a custom and the speedo was changed. Even if this bike is show quality does not having the "actual" mileage really hurt the value?? KBB says softails are worth about $6900 +-...
This guys says it is worth around $12k... (I'm wouldn't be spending that much)..
What are you thoughts on the value of the bike??

I don't think not knowing the mileage should hurt anything. You can pretty much see everything on a bike, it's not like a car where you throw it away at 200K miles. The only thing you can't see is inside the engine. With a Harley, if it runs and sounds OK and isn't puking oil all over, then it has value.
My experience is that Harleys in the class of the Softail, Road King, etc. start at around 18K new and slowly move down in price. Eight, nine, ten years later, they're worth 10K and that's where the price sits as long as the bike is in great shape. Doesn't matter if it's a '99, an '85 or a '75. Anything under that price is either a great deal or else there's something wrong with it.
KBB means beans when it comes to Harleys. If you can find someone to sell you an older bike at that listing, that's a great deal. I think that 12K is too much for this bike though. All those bolt ons don't affect the price much, they just make it easier to sell sometimes.

They all say that, if it was true they would name the dealer or indie that did the work....
