Default springer front end question....

hey all,

does anyone know if a later model springer front fork (not the rear rigid fork) ...say a 95-97 will bolt up to an earlier springer ....1991?

i ask because the front fender set up on them is different....the earlier models had the fender mounted solely to the front fork, which is why it was so high...it had to leave room for the front tire travel....but the later models had the fender traveling on the brake reaction link, therefore making it possible to lower the profile of the front fender because it could now travel with the front wheel

anyone?

Probably...you need to find a newer springer and measure it. Once upon a time Kuryakyn used to make a fender lowering kit for the older springers, to get rid of the "dirt bike" look. I haven't seen one in a catalog in a while...but if you do enough searching, I bet someone has one sitting on a shelf somewhere. Also HD had a fender lowering kit available, it turned the '88-92 Springers into the '93 and later version. New fork legs and fender.

indeed, Tom.... they made one....did a little research and found that it included some hardware AND the front fork off the springers that came out after 1992... would explain why it was all nearly 500.00 for the kit

i'm figuring it should work... hate to drop 100.00 on the piece on ebay if i don't know for certain, though

....more research

Or, you can always do what I did and just put a bigger tire on the front.
This is the stock 80/90:

And this is a 90/90:

interesting, BL

indeed, i actually have a 120/70 going up front..... don't know how that'll look against the fender, but i'll probably have to get something custom fit, regardless
