It is definately a FXRD. Only made in 95 & 96,...from what I have read. Only came in two colors.

Google it & see.

I think it is a crankcase vent. The hell and toe shifter is stock on the Fxrd, I owned one years ago. The barrels and heads look like stock 86 vintage.

It could very well be vents. But it has a vent on the other side, as seen here. What would that vent be for then?

1986 FXRD Grand Touring, made only that year, stock heal-toe shifter and running boards. Also came with duel exhaust. Looks like someone put some $ into the motor. Very Nice, would look even better next to my FXRT

You might want to find out what you have before you put it up for sale, looks like a very nice, limited production bike with a lot of money spent on it!

They are definetly oil drain back lines. The entire engine assembly has passages (pushrod tubes) that allow the crankcase pressure to reach the top end, so running a hose from the crankcase to the rocker boxes would accomplih nothing. So if they were put on for that purpose the builder didn't accomplish what he was after.
I seriously suspect that either it's a large bore engine or they were install to either give the illusion that it is, or perhaps to solve an issue with oil drain back. Of course there is always the possibility that the builder was just looking for some "extra machine work". Hope this helps.

The FXRD was made only in 1986.

The vent on the side of the transmission is the Crank case vent. It was a redirect from the air cleaner.
The transmission is the standard 5 speed transmission used from 1980 to 1986. The clutch was activated by the arm that reached across the transmission. In 1987, the clutch changed from the arm to the ramp to activate the clutch.
