My trip odometer took a $hit tonight. The main one is still working. I don't use it all the time. With the 49 MPG thread I have been curios of my gas mileage. When I went to set it, felt tight. I have a gas gauge so I will survive.
I would like to fix it if possible. It skips and is not in unison. I notice that a piece of the 4 in the tenths column has broke off. I think it's in there jamming it up.
Has anyone ever taken apart a Speedo/Tach set up on a FLHTC model? I searched here and really didn't find anything. On Google there are a few sites but mostly car ones. I can buy a used one for $149. but everything else works. Thanks for any help
An automotive speedometer shop should have no problem repairing your speedometer. You could also try "Googling" for more info. We had a customer that sent his out for repairs and had a custom face put on, and change the color of the bulbs while he was at it.

Mine did exactly the same thing - same wheel, same spot. Where they break is at the tab that turns the next wheel to the left. I never found the piece that was missing. (?)
They aren't "that" hard to disassemble but a bit tedious nonetheless. I bought a dash off ebay from a later Shovel and took out the piece (tenths wheel) I needed. Any year model speedo of the "dash" design will work.
Thanks for the help guys. Sound like there isn't much sense taking it apart unless I have the parts to fix it. I think I will just live with until Winter. Then I'll either try to fix it or take it to a shop. Thanks again everyone.
my 85 flht did the same thing in the same spot. i found an old flht speedo at a car swapmeet and paid $4 for it. the only thing i wanted from it was the trip meter. the guy i bought it from said everything worked on it. he was lying but i didn't care i only needed the trip meter. i found another one at a motorcycle swapmeet last winter, $5 for that one, he started at $20. i told him $5 tops, he took it.
Sounds like I should just be patient. I'll hit the next few Swap meets. Maybe a deal will come my way. I am not going to take it apart until I have something to fix it or replace it with. Hell it peak riding season.
not hard, there's a c clip you remove and the lower numbers come right out. when you find a replacement, look it over and you will see how it is assembled. the guy i bought mine from had 2, one was 0 miles and the other had 73k on it. i took the 73k one. $5.
