The late `84 through `89 clutches are the same, the first of the diaphragm spring clutches.

The `84-`86 clutch throwout mechanism is different from the later models, the cable is connected to an arm outside the transmission case, which is connected to a finger inside the case, on the right side of the transmission.

Sometimes the finger inside the case breaks...

The adjustment method for this model clutch is the same as later evo type clutches, a locknut and the threaded rod, but unlike the later clutches, there is also an adjustment for the diaphragm spring, this is accomplished by installing the pressure plate in different positions.

No special tools needed to disassemble this model clutch, however, if you must remove the clutch hub from the mainshaft, you will need a puller.

Before you condemn the clutch, be sure it is adjusted properly, and that the cable, throwout mechanism and pushrod are all in proper working order.
