im really happy with the pwr on my evo. my TWINKIE seemed to have more torque, but on the upper rpm range my evo pulls much harder!!!
Our Evos when they were made were subject to noise and exhaust emissions restrictions, but by the time the TCs came along the regulations were tighter and are getting tighter still. That probably has a lot to do with the difference you describe. It's easier to give an Evo it's performance back!
I never had mine dynoed. Heads were done as well, cam and higher CR, plus Crane ignition. I was told mid-upper 80s for both HP/TQ. Certainly went well!
My 89" has had the heads ported to match up to the Edelbrock intake, Super G carb, Crane Hi-4 ignition, Crane cam, true duals and a six speed. I get 80 and 80 on the dyno. I expected a little more, but I'm at 5000 ft.

I bought this 97 Roadking not long ago and I guess I'm going to have to pull the cover and see what cam it has. Damn thing pulls like a freight train. Used the EV27 in my 90 and it ran hard and seemed to get there quicker but a lighter bike. Guy I bought the 97 from said it had a mild cam and had been jetted but didn't know what the dealer put in. I ride with a guy who just did the 95 kit with gear drive and new cams on his twinkie and it seems to make a lot of torque. He was pretty surprised that he was not running off from me. Neither one of us push much past 90 on the road. Getting curious to open this little 80" motor and see what it has in it.
I have learned that professional engine builders have an edge with the experiance they have aquired, I was priveledge to have John Sachs do work on my engine and taught me alot about what professionals can do.
Well set up engines get 1 HP per cube but guys like John make that ratio go up, John's work is in alot of Nightriders dyno section, I attached a link to his small cubic inch sportster engines with some forced air on it and can also cast some magic on a regular aspirated engine too.
