Thanks guys. I'll post my results once the cam is in. I am getting it put in at a local garage and having a rejet on the carb as well. After that we dyno and get the numbers.

For my 84 FXR - Crane Cam, Crane Adjustable pushrods, Crane Siglefore ignition, Mikuni HS40 carb, Heads flowed, unknown aftermarket pipes, Barnett Clutch.
Never had it on a Dyno, but it ran like a raped ape.

For my current 89 FLHT - it came with an S&S Super E carb. - winter plans are for an EV27 cam, crane adjustable pushrods, crane signle fire ignition, heads flowed and SE slip-ons.

Bighearn, Go with an Andrews EV27 cam, torrington cam bearing, adjustable pushrods. I think the Dyna 2000 module works the best, can go single or dual fire, built in tach adapter fully adjustable and easy to install. As for heads, mill .080 off the head gasket surface (9.8:1 compression) install Manley stainless valves. Good carb kit and any pipe will give you about 80-85 HP. Pretty reliable and no increased service intervals.

I've got alittle over 80k on my '98 FXSTC and it runs great. V/H pipes, Kuryakyn Hypercharger , EV27 cam, Dyna 2000 ignition, Heads ported, polished, & flowed, Wisco Flat top pistons, re-jetted CVO carb, Revtech 6 speed trans, & Barnett clutch. 79 HP & 102 Tq Dynoed at 167 top speed in 6th gear. I reckon I'll keep her.

I haven't heard anyone mention balancing the crank. Of course more work, labor, etc., but is that going to get you anything? I'm also in this mode with about $3000 to get my mildly modded 97' fxdwg maxed out - WITH RELIABLILTY for long rides. Any chance of 100/100+/- with reliability? Keeping the Thunderheader!

Does this qualify as a hijack? Sorry if so.

I would not split the case. With good tuning and the mods I have on my bike it is reliable. It has 80k on it, and I would not hesitate to jump on it right now and head 1000 miles down to Key West. With these mods about 2500 to 3k $. You can get 80/90 and you will stay reliable.

I had it dyno'ed at 86/87 a couple of years ago and have put 25k on it since. I don't have the paperwork showing what was done to it by the PO - [:@]major setback in my Quest For Knowledge.

With those numbers I'd suspect a cam change and you're either running an aftermarket carb or a re-worked CV. Also I'd suspect some head work and a bit of compression increase. All good reliable mods on the EVO. You want more oomph with only a slight decrease in reliability? Probably gonna have to go with a stroker. Save some more $$$ and get a S&S 'crate' engine, sell your EVO to offset some of the cost.

Hackd - Thanks, I'm faintly remembering, but didn't want to say if it was stupid, that those are the mods done by the PO. And you're right, its been very reliable. Even though I love the Thunderheader I've broken exhaust studs twice including once in nowhere British Columbia. I've modified the bracket for that though and don't expect more problems from that.

Will an S&S drop right in? Although I'd like to go with the 6-speed, I'm fine with the stock 5-speed tranny. It's not like my funds are unlimited. What size S&S will fit? And what is their reliability factor? Can they be bought directly from S&S or do you have to go therough a dealer? I ride from Alaska to the Lower 48 every year and would rather avoid getting stuck in Cache Creek once more.

Thanks again for the feedback - from anyone, and I apologize for the hijack.
