Hello.. I have a 1998 Electra Glide with Fuel injection.
Previously I put a Revtech DFO on it but never really got it adjusted right so I called a bike shop who specializes in high performance harleys. He told me with the Evo's it will not do much good using a DFO with a fuel injected Evo. When I had it hooked up I got really bad gas mileage but never got more performance.
The main reason I am posting is because I just put new Rush pipes with 2.5" baffles. It backfires pretty good when decelerating... I'm assuming now it is running really lean. I'm wondering if the DFO would work ok now or if there was another option to adjust the bike to run more rich..
We never had much luck with a DFO. Check to make sure that you do not have any leaks in your exhaust system as that will cause a decel pop as well. Did you remove the old gaskets and install new ones??
I use a DFO om my 1996 and while I can't say it's improved performance, my plugs are always a pleasing tan color. I have an andrews ev-27 cam, a Cobra 2 into 1 pipe and a Ness Big Sucker. I get about 40 mpg now and did about the same in stock configuration.
PC3 is hard to beat on a Evo EFI, your decel popping is a lean conditon at the 0 percent throttle positon cell and easily fixed with the Power Commander
Have a 96 Electra Glide and confused by those of you using the PC3 on this years model. Power Commander site suggests their product is for 97 and later models. Are you still using the 96 Magnetti EFI?
I'm asking as I am looking at throwing in some Andrews cams, Adj Pushrods, a Big Sucker Filter Kit and confused by what options I have for controlling the 96 Magnetti EFI since it itself is untunable.
Thanks for any assistance in understanding this mod. Currently my ride is (to quote the fine mech at a local shop) sounds like it's underwater. Very tame. Would also like to get any remarks on whether to put in a EV27 or a EV13. I realize its based on your general ride characteristics and I do a balance of city and highway riding.
I think that for you to use a PCIII on your '96, you must upgrade the computer to the '97-'98 unit.
+1+1
When I firsr acquired my 1996 FLHR/I, I called Jamie at Fuel_Moto and he suggested an upgrade to a 1997 ECM. THe 96 unit is not programmable or flashable. As stated earlier I went with a RevTech DFO. It works, in that I haven't melted the motor down with lean conditions, but I don't know how optimal the tune is. 97Bagger, do you still have your ECM? Could you possibly post a picture of the "plug-in" ? I have a 97 ECM that I got off of ebay (for insurance) but it looks like it takes a totally different connector from the 96.
