ignition coil
I just recently put together a softail with a after market frame and a 89 evo engine in it .I used a ultima wiring harness.I joined the white and black wire from harness to the + of the coil as directed. then took the 3 wires from the ignition timing 1 red 1 green and 1 black. connected the red to positive on the coil the green to negative on the coil and the black wire to ground. but i got no spark im using a accel single fire coil.do i need a dual fire coil or a module?. i asked the company i bought the wiring harness from they said all relays and modules are inside the harness.and all i had to do was how i wired it..any help out there?

HEI? HEI is a General Motors system for cars & trucks. So, what is in the cone on the motor? Stock '89 HD system? Aftermarket system? What system is it? Specifically, what manufacturer and model? Did you wire the ignition into this harness using the instructions that came with the harness, or use the instructions for the specific ignition system installed on the bike. Lotsa different ignitions out there and some are self-contained behind the ignition cover and some have a sensor only installed there with a module mounted elsewhere.

its a stock evo engine. and i followed the wiring diagram from the manufacture. its called for the white and black wire to go straight to the positive on coil..the wire harness is a ultima 18-530 http://www.ultimaproducts.com/18-530.pdf here is a copy of the wiring instructions

Dude is your ignition stock as in came from the factory with the black box or is it an aftermarket system without the black box , look under the point covers see if there a name on it ? We are not talking about your new wiring kit from Ultima . There's more wiring combinations that a dog has fleas so we need a little more detail to help you .

My opinion - Dyna S with good quality mechanical advance. It all fits behind the timing cover and is dead simple & reliable.

I was under the impression that this wiring harness from ultima had the ignition module built in. Can someone confirm this or not for me. its the ultima 18-530

galdus, doode... You need to read and think this stuff through. If your harness is the one linked to above (18-530.pdf), then that's a harness for everything except the ignition. Do you see "ignition module" in there? I only see Coil on page 4, with the switched +12v. So, basically, you have no ignition circuit and that's why you have no spark. Whoever sold you that either didn't understand your question or didn't understand the product.
How to fix it: Open the cone and see what's in there. I suggest keeping it stock HD. Based on your colors, that's probably what's in there. Get a stock HD (or screaming eagle) ignition module and the VOES (vacuum switch). Mount module, wire to pickup sensor (the thing in the cone), VOES, coil negative and switched 12v at the coil positiver per a factory schematic. Get a factory style coil (waste spark) if that's not what you have. There should be 2 low voltage electrical connections on the coil, not three.
