Default Interstate Speed Wobble/Control Question

I was running about 75 mph on the interstate and accelerated to get around a semi and the turbulance. My bike began to wobble and I thought it was going to progress to the point that I would lose control. Fortunately I backed out of it and it settled down after a few seconds. Whew, scared the crap out of me. Any thoughts or is there something I need to check?

When this happens on Harleys I usually throw away the balance weights from the front wheel and its cured.

Check your steering head bearings, front fork oil & tire pressures. If they all check out, check your swing arm bushings!
Hatch.

What the hatchet man said plus tire condition, pressure, balance, handlebar bushings, fairing mounts and wheel bearings.

Also, look up True Track. This is a very common issue with baggers and Dyna's. If simple fix's don't solve the issue, a stabilizer system is the next step. I had the same issue as you described, the True Track fixed me up.

What they all said, I increased my fork oil up to 20w and replaced my front engine mount, also have the progressive touring link fitted, mine still shakes when fully loaded but it's alot better than it was, new swing arm bushes will be fitted this winter as I need to pull the swing arm to get it powder coated anyway.

Good idea to check everything that was mentioned above. However; you were behind a semi on the interstate and the turbulence coming off that thing will bounce you around. Get behind one at interstate speeds, note the way your bike reacts, pass him, then note how it settles down.

Did you look at how the weight was distributed on the bike? Was your tour pack or bags full, passenger, etc?

On an older bike there is plenty of scope for there to be something that needs attention, as suggested already. As for a stabilizer I am a great fan of True-Track and have them on Glide and Dyna. The only way to travel! However don't go down that route until you are happy all the other things suggested are fine. Look upon a stabilizer as an upgrade, not the solution to things being out of adjustment or worn.
