Default Evo cases?

Are the rubber mount Dyna engine cases interchangeable with the Softail cases? Are there any differences or is the only difference simply the mounting system? Question being, could I mount a Softail or Touring motor in a Dyna chassis of the same year?

Well in 1996 they were the same...other years probably no different.

My understanding is that Evo motors are interchangeable. Only with the TCs did the Softail motors change away (with the balancers) from the rubber mounts.

Thanks. The reason I am asking is a question arose involving installing Shovelhead engines in Softail frames. I see custom Softail frames that say "accepts Pan, Shovel and Evo motors". I was just wondering if that meant ANY Evo motor or did it have to be a Softail Evo motor. And for that matter, would any Pan Shovel or Evo motor fit in pretty much any Evo frame......... thats really the crux of the discussion. Thanks for the quick responses.

The 4 block mounting holes are the same, from at least knuckle to evo. Maybe even flathead, but it's been a long time since I saw one of those. Let's just say '36-'99 all mount the same.

OK, that was what I thought. Every once in a while I get in these stupid a$$ discussions involving this motor in this bike and so forth. The latest one involved a modern Shovel engine in a Softail frame. I hate arguing with people when I don't have the facts or at least a reasonable hypothesis. That won't stop me from arguing, it just makes it less fun. So thanks for the info, at least now I have a direction.
