Default no start

Ok, guys its me again. I am working on a friends 98 fatboy that is a no start. From my previous posts, you may or may not know I am a car mechanic. Here is what I have found. It has fuel going to and through carb. It has good spark at both cylinders. 150 psi compression per cylinder. When it died, it died abruptly. To me it is a spark issue. It back fired a flame out exhaust on a cold non running motor while cranking. I think it is the ignition module that has lost it's ability to time the spark correctly. Am I missing anything here?

Check the trigger behind the ignition module and make sure it is still indexed to the crankshaft. You will have to remove the rivets on the cone to get in. Be sure and replace the rivets with the correct type. They have to be self capturing, HD has them.

Sometimes the bolt that holds it to the crank will back out and allow the trigger to re-index itself.

If it is making "BANG" then there is gasoline and spark in the cylinder, just not at the right time.

The bike pretty much just got a fresh set of plugs and a tank of fuel previous week. Running mint no issues then just ka put. I will check the trigger which has been upgraded to an adjustable style oh and by the way it is a screamin eagle 32630-96 module from which I can tell by online posts, have issues. If I put a stock one in it should go vroom correct if all else is normal? Man the guys on here are real helpful. I appreciate it a whole bunch.

I don't know, but check and see if it is a single-fire or dual-fire ignition system. Remember the dual-fire system is firing both plugs at the same time, one on the exhaust stroke, so the exhaust valve is open and the intake valve is about to open. So if the ignition is late it would ignite the incoming fuel mixture.

My wife's bike did exactly what you describe, it was the trigger coming loose from the crank. I didn't install it, it was installed by an HD dealer.

If that is it make sure that first the threads weren't stripped when assembled, and second use red locktite on that bolt.

Valve or spark timing is out. both can be verified through the cam chest on the right side of the engine.
Hatch.

Yes if all else is normal, the stock module should fire it up...a faulty module will kill the bike instantly, and may come back on after a cool down or be intemittent. I've replaced 2 stock modules on my own EVOs, replaced with the SEs with no further issues.
