Default Drag Pipes

Hi all!

I like the long and thin exhaust and a I have a Drag Pipes on my Night Train EVO 99. But... can it damage the engine?

I thought in this: http://cgi.ebay.es/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...049786074&rd=1

Nobody likes this Pipes?? []

Thanks!

Pd: Excuse my english, I'm Spanish and I'm studying every day.

Personally, I do not like the sound of drag pipes. Way too loud and too harsh. I like to hear: Burrrrrrrrr, not Blaaaaaaaaa. They're just another reason for the law to pull you over and hassle you. To each their own I guess.

As far as the torque cones go, I've never read anything good about them. Seems like a waste of money.

Drags are always a bad idea...except for drag racing. They're too loud and they're going to end up forcing all of us to have totally stock exhausts. Plus, no matter what you try, they can't be tuned properly for low end torque. You can put in those cones, or the "lollipop" that you can turn sideways in the pipe, or whatever else, and they will always run like **** except at wide open throttle. They simply don't have the exhaust volume you need for low speeds. Do us all a favor and put on some nice sounding Cycle Shacks.

Unless they are really, really short they won't damage your engine. And sticking with the 1-7/8 inch pipes is a good idea, as the larger diameter pipes that are popular can't develop enough velocity to work as well as the smaller diameter pipes. But the larger drags have a deeper tone, and aren't as harsh sounding, so that is something to consider. And contrary to popular belief, and while all the above comments have some merit, drags can be tuned well enough to be OK on a street bike. But they will never be as good as a set of pipes with a crossover, or with a little more back pressure. Here's a link to the Exhaust Forum on here with some info:

Good luck!

Forgot to add this about the "torque cones". What these do is increase the exhaust gas velocity as it leaves the exhaust port at the head. They are essentially a venturi, and the increase in velocity is accompanied by a decrease in pressure. That is a good thing - the lower pressure after the torque cone helps prevent exhasut gases from flowing back into the head (reversion).

Torque cones are not going to cure everything about drag pipes, but they do work well enough that the newest HD Twin Cam heads have an anti-reversion device built into them.

Drag pipes have been run on Harleys forever. They are not the best performing pipes for an EVO but they will not harm the engine. If you like them, run them. I like the sound of drag pipes and your running them in Spain is not going to cause us any EPA problems over here.
