Default Solenoid Switch Push-Button Cover

Hey guys,

I'm trying to find a Starter Solenoid Switch Push-Button Cover for a stock starter on my '89 FLHTC. I've search this site and Googled it and can't find one. I talked to the people at J&P cycles and they said that no one makes one. They said that they only make them for '91 and up. Anyone here know if that's true or not?

Thanks.

Stan

I believe starter solenoid and starter motor changed in 1991 (I have a 91 FLT) and beginning in 1991 solenoid is on top of starter motor under seat. Pre 1991 have old style starter system with solenoid at left side primary at starter jackshaft. The push botton starter buttons they sell only fit 1991 and up with later style solenoid on top of starter motor. You should be able to easily rig up a direct starter button that would independently engage the solenoid. I have the push botton on mine and it has saved my butt more than one time. I believe I am telling you right.

FL's and FXR's list a different starter for just 89-90 so it is probably true...post a pic of your starter.

Just take a quarter and touch both terminals of the solenoid, if the ignition is on it will start.

Here's a pic of my starter.

It also looks like the one in the link below. It's looks like the one on the right side labeled 2.0 kw on the fourth post down might work.

The 2.0 is not for a stock Harley starter...if any of them fit it is going to be the 1.4. They cost less than 20 bucks on ebay...live dangerously...buy one and see if it works...lol

1989 was the first year for the solenoid mounted directly on the starter motor.

What you have is a Nippodenso starter, they were used on all EVO"s from 1989 on. Any of the late model 1.4 KW solenoid buttons should work.
