I got the wifes new to her 89 heritage home. Bike runs great but I have run into a bit of a problem. When I hit the signal switch for left or right it will blink as long as the button is held in, is this normal. I was also wandering why the bike has no emergency flashers when you hold both left and right signal switches, is there no 4 way flashers on the 89 heritage?
I dunno about the 4 way, but around 89, it was normal for the flasher to only flash as long as you held it down. My bike (86) has a click-on-click-off turnsignal. Dr.Linda's has the only flashes as long as you hold it down turnsignal. After that, they added the module that breaks and cost A LOT to replace.
My '89 Sporty was the same way. Hold the buttons down to keep the blinkers on. At least this way, there's no chance of forgetting to turn the blinker off.
The Softail got turn signal cancellers and 4 way flashers in '91, as has been mentioned. This required the addition of a different module, and a new speedo with a reed switch inside to signal the blinker to turn off after a certain distance was covered. This required the trip meter and reset **** to be moved a bit and thus required a new dash casting to fit the new speedo/trip meter ****. One simple change made for a bunch of other changes.
